The stem cell debate is dead

Dr. Oz, featured on Oprah, declared "the stem cell debate is dead". He said the problem with embryonic stem cells is "they are very hard to control and they can become cancer". Ironically, he said all this with the poster boy for embryonic stem cell research, Michael J. Fox, sitting right beside him.

Instead, adult stem cell research has made ten-years worth advancement in the last year and adult stem cells are now more viable then embryonic stem cells ever were. My heart breaks at the unborn humans lost in the wake of this debate, and more so over the devaluing of all such life that lies behind this debate. I rejoice at the turn of events away from embryonic stem cell research, and regret only that it did not come from a change of heart and point of view about the humanity of the unborn.

Sure, but let's not be self-righteous and smug about it. Glad reason prevails at some point.

Just wondering what your take is on the late term abortionist who was aborted really "late term" on Sunday?

It's indefensible and it shows a disconnect in the murderer's thinking. If murder before birth is wrong, murder after birth is wrong.

Certainly this person thought they were acting as some sort of renegade justice-keeper, but the Bible tells us that the rulers of our nation "bear the sword" for that purpose ("he who sheds man's blood, by man his blood shall be shed"). Even if late-term abortion is equal to first-degree murder (and that is a different debate entirely), no Christian has the right to circumvent the law and take justice into their own hands.

I consider what this murderer did to be irrational, wicked, and unchristian. It is a shame that fringe religious groups have such power that they can manipulate the weak into a murdering fervor.

Al Mohler gave a better answer to your question than I could muster and I offer his response to any and all interested.

Your position is very well thought out and I appreciate you taking the time to share it with us. But I'm still not sure how I feel about this particular incident, except to say that, there is a part of me that feels like doctor Tiller got what was coming to him. I realize thats probably the barbarian in me talking. I just can't feel sorry for him. But I won't delve into it any deeper than that. Because oviously you've done a lot more homework on this issue than I have, and if I were to challenge you in the arena of ideas I might get hurt. Ha ha. But I was able to glean one bit of information in all of this that has me feeling somewhat encouraged. It seems that as these late term abortionists age, there doesn't seem to be much interest by younger doctors to follow in their footsteps. Thank God!
